Assistant Buyer

We are seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful, hardworking Assistant Buyer to grow with the company and add value to our team. Experience at an Assistant Buyer level is necessary, as is an exceptional eye for detail, and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across all areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in seasonal range planning by analyzing customer buying patterns, forecasting sales, and predicting future trends. Present findings clearly in reports and presentations, including ratio calculations for size and color.
  2. Buy for three key territories: UK, EU, and North America.
  3. Work with the Head of Buying to maximize profits and provide a commercially viable merchandise range at competitive prices.
  4. Regularly review stock, sales, and orders, reacting promptly to meet sales, stock, and profit targets.
  5. Maintain relationships with suppliers.
  6. Liaise with other departments to ensure project completion.
  7. Participate in promotional activities, identify slow-moving stock, suggest markdowns or promotions, and coordinate promotional events and clearance sales.
  8. Create style books for products, update trim labels, fabrications, and packaging as needed, and coordinate with graphic designers to ensure brand consistency.
  9. Manage the critical path from product development to delivery, ensuring schedules and deadlines are met.
  10. Oversee the sample process to ensure designs and fabrics meet brand standards.
  11. Handle lab dip and trim approvals, providing feedback to suppliers.
  12. Train and mentor team members.
  13. Approve PTS for shipments.
  14. Attend fit meetings with QC, provide suggestions on fit, style, and trims, and approve samples.
We would like to meet someone who:
  • Has relevant Assistant Buyer experience within an own-brand retailer.
  • Has managed the critical path for their department.
  • Is aware of competitors and strives to keep MW the best value on the high street.
  • Confidently suggests product types and quantities within the budgeted OTB.
  • Possesses good interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Has strong IT skills, especially in Excel or equivalent.
  • Is market-aware, keeping up with trends and demand changes.
  • Understands customer needs regarding price, quality, and availability.
  • Has excellent time management and prioritization skills.
