About the role

We are recruiting ambitious and hardworking Assistant Buyers to join our dynamic Food team at Tesco. As a leading multinational retailer, Tesco offers a fast-paced, rewarding environment with excellent training and development opportunities.

You will work within Fresh & Packaged Food categories, which may include Fresh Meat, Pet, Household, Beauty, Bakery, Hot Beverages, and Snacks. Your work will impact millions of Tesco customers weekly.

Responsibilities

• Support your manager in managing supplier performance and building long-term relationships
• Use insight tools to analyze performance issues and opportunities
• Conduct store/website visits and review customer insights and food trends
• Help develop customer-led product ranges and innovation
• Negotiate with suppliers to meet category strategies and customer needs
• Assist in delivering trade promotions and events to exceed KPIs
• Support the Supply Chain in ensuring timely product availability
• Work with suppliers and quality teams to maintain product standards
• Adhere to Tesco policies, storage, and training requirements
• Act with integrity and uphold the Business Code of Conduct

Minimum requirements

Experience:

• Passion for retail or experience in FMCG
• Buying experience (preferred)
• Range & trade planning skills
• Report analysis skills

Operational skills:

• Influencing & negotiation
• Stakeholder & supplier management
• Buying, range management, and trade planning
• Data analysis and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
