Job summary

Probe UK is seeking an Assistant Buyer to join its growing engineering procurement team. You will source precision components, manage supplier relationships and support project delivery across global customers.

This role offers a 37.5-hour week with some flexibility (and some Friday’s off), a matched pension, life assurance, employee-owned shares, 36 days holiday, annual bonus, long service awards and free parking. Career growth within the business is available.

Responsibilities

  • Component Sourcing: Purchase 3rd party automation components and custom manufactured components, in line with project schedules.
  • Liaise with engineers to ensure component specifications are communicated clearly to suppliers (e.g. materials, surface finish, inspection, certification requirements).
  • Suppliers: Review with procurement/engineers to select appropriate suppliers. Order placement conducted via web ordering systems, email, and telephone correspondence.
  • Cost Awareness: Compare supplier quotations and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Data Management: Highly detailed person to maintain procurement trackers and generate accurate purchase order records using in-house software.
  • Proactive communication: Update engineers on part lead times, and order statuses when things shift. Utilise and update internal delivery tracking systems.
  • Bill of material (BOM)/Stock Management – Receive and check incoming products, verify deliveries against purchase orders, update inventory levels, and maintain accurate stock records to ensure effective stock control in platform delivery department.
  • Resolve supplier queries and delivery issues promptly, liaising with engineers where necessary.

Assistant Buyer Pay, Hours and Benefits
  • £30,000 - £35,000
  • 37.5 hours per week, with some flexibility (and some Friday’s off)
