The role

Northeastern University London invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Finance & Accounting. The appointee will be teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and provide service to the discipline in line with the evolving needs and aspirations of the Faculty and University. Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and service excellence.

Core duties will include development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching in relevant areas of Business at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and professional service commensurate to career stage. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Business to one or more of the following areas: financial technologies, responsible investing, data-driven humanities and social sciences, sustainability, and ethics.

Preference may be given to candidates whose research demonstrably contributes to the Faculty's priority areas. We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction/job-share basis subject to our business needs.

About the Faculty

The appointee will work in a multidisciplinary team within the Faculty of Social Sciences, and is likely to contribute to work across a variety of teams, both faculty and professional services colleagues, particularly in the entrepreneurship and educational innovation space. In the 2025/26 academic year, the Business and Project Management faculty team will comprise approximately 20 academic staff, working in a range of fields, including international business, marketing, accounting, organisational behaviour, financial technologies, sustainable business practices, and project management.

The Faculty of Social Sciences has approximately 70 academic staff, including academics in Economics, Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Design & Communication Studies. Qualifications

For Assistant Professor:

  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area
  • A teaching qualification, such as FHEA, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)
For Associate Professor:
  • PhD completed, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area
  • A teaching qualification, such as FHEA, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)
Key Criteria

For Assistant Professor:
  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-impact research including potential for external grant funding, particularly on strategically significant themes such as sustainability.
For Associate Professor:
  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent intellectual and practical leadership to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in teaching and service.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-impact research, including evidence of potential for external grant funding.
  • Experience in or willingness to participate in multidisciplinary research teams, particularly on strategically significant themes such as sustainability.
  • Ability to lead a self-sustaining research program through external sponsored funding, and willingness and capacity to engage and develop working relationships with external partners and with colleagues across diverse disciplines in Northeastern University London and across the Northeastern University global network.
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake academic leadership tasks, including line management and leadership of strategic projects, as well as continuous professional development for such purposes.
For both levels:
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to institutionally strategic themes, including but not limited to technology, data, sustainability, and ethics
  • Ability to develop excellent educational provision in areas with significant appeal to students, including at postgraduate level, and with a focus on experiential learning.
  • Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses, where appropriate in collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.

    Teaching competency in Finance up to Level 7 (Masters level), and in Accounting at least up to Level 5 (2nd year undergraduate)
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills, both face-to-face and online
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
