Job Summary

To assist the Area Head in operational management and quality assurance of Engineering and Professional Construction programmes, with responsibility for planning and delivering Higher Education (HE) programmes in Engineering (Levels 4-6) and Professional Construction (Levels 3-6).

Main Tasks
  • Act in line management capacity for delivery staff within HE Engineering and Professional Construction areas.
  • Undertake a caseload of teaching, with reduced hours to focus on management duties.
  • Oversee delivery of programmes including T Level in Professional Construction, HNC (HTQ) in Construction (from September 2025), BSc Construction, HNC/Ds in Engineering, BSc Engineering, offered through classroom and Apprenticeship routes.
  • Provide academic leadership for course approvals, validations, quality assurance, and represent the area at HE Awards Boards.
  • Assist in managing staff and resources to ensure high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment, promoting student success and positive destinations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead on teaching, learning, and assessment quality; develop and deliver CPD for staff.
  • Provide academic leadership in line with awarding body and university regulations.
  • Prepare staff timetables and liaise with timetabling for rooming and register accuracy.
  • Ensure adequate cover for staff sickness and monitor arrangements.
  • Manage directly reporting staff, including team meetings, staff welfare, recruitment, induction, lesson observations, performance reviews, and development.
  • Handle employee relations concerns and manage budgets in accordance with college policies.
  • Monitor student behaviour, discipline, and pastoral support.
  • Manage physical resources supporting curriculum delivery.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Area on staff and resource deployment.
  • Support promotion, marketing, stakeholder liaison, curriculum quality, staff development, and curriculum innovation.
  • Participate in HE Management Forum and Engineering & Professional Construction Management group.
  • Maintain personal professional development.
  • Adhere to college policies on safeguarding, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the college.
