Job description

What you'll bring to the team

Fancy working with magnificent sharks, cheeky otters, or Scotland’s only cow nose rays?

SEA LIFE Loch Lomond is on the hunt for an Assistant Aquarist to dive into a role packed with variety, weird and wonderful creatures and a real chance to grow.

No two days are ever the same. You might be making enrichment toys for our Asian small-clawed otters, working hand on with our 200,000-litre ocean display from siphoning to feeding and much more, or prepping meals for the Largest Collection of Rays and Sharks in Scotland and the UK’s only Olive Ridely Turtle (psst… washing up is part of the deal too).

We’ve got 35 displays – from Scottish lochs to the predators of the reef – and you'll help look after them all. That means:

  • Feeding and health checks
  • Water changes and water quality tests
  • Cleaning, maintenance, and enrichment
  • Chatting to guests at feeding times and sharing the weird, wonderful world of our animals

This is a part-time permanent role and includes working a regular, fair share of weekends and bank holidays as required as well as providing emergency call out cover on a roster basis.

Think you're ready? Dive in.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience within public aquariums involving maintenance, plumbing and operation of large life support systems - desirable.
  • Shown experience in animal husbandry with freshwater, marine animals, and invertebrates.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of water chemistry as applied to an aquarium environment.
  • A practical ability to build ‘wow’ displays with a solid understanding of the accurate use of theming, lighting, and water movement.
  • A degree level qualification (or working towards) in animal care, marine biology or equivalent is desirable.
Benefits
  • Monthly Bonus based on guest satisfaction.
  • 25% discount in our retail shops and restaurants.
  • 40% off LEGO online.
  • Merlin Magic Pass - giving you free tickets to all our attractions worldwide for you, your family, and friends every year.
  • Enjoy the ride pass - giving you and 5 friends a Merlin annual pass (gold edition).
  • Employee pricing up to 55% off cinema tickets.
