VANRATH is delighted to partner with a well known Public Sector Organisation to offer an Assistant Accountant role within a growing finance team. The position is initially on an interim basis with potential for long-term extension, and it is based in a city centre location with hybrid working.

You will support budget control, provide reports, review financial returns, and supply performance information to senior Finance staff, escalating issues with proposals for resolution.

Qualifications

• Final exams of AAT or IATI; or CCAB foundation papers; or a relevant Bachelor's degree in accounting.
• Minimum 3 years' accounting experience in two of: budget setting/forecasting/reporting; statutory or management accounts; use of an integrated financial system with advanced spreadsheets.

Responsabilités

• Develop budgetary control processes and support budget holders with reports and variance analysis.
• Review provider organisations' financial returns and draft reports for review.
• Provide senior Finance with performance information and escalate issues with proposals.
• Assist with ad hoc investigations and ensure regular reports are circulated on timetables.
• Represent Finance on internal/external committees and working groups as required.
• Identify business improvements to enhance Finance section performance.

What you'll do

• Play a key role in the development of budgetary control processes, supporting budget holders with the provision of reports, investigation of variances and providing advice on necessary corrective actions.
• Perform financial reviews of provider organisations and validate the accuracy of their financial returns, including drafting reports for review.
• Provide senior Finance staff with performance information in relation to the relevant areas of responsibility, ensuring that any issues are escalated and proposals for resolution are made.
• Assist with ad hoc investigations and reports, while ensuring that regular reports are produced and circulated in accordance with agreed reporting timetables.
• Represent the Finance section on internal/external committees and working groups, as required.
• Identify business improvements with the aim of enhancing the performance of the relevant Finance section.

About You

Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications:

• the final examinations of AAT or IATI; or
• the foundation papers of a CCAB body (or equivalent) or
• a relevant Bachelor's degree (where accounting is the major component) or equivalent qualification

1. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting environment in at least 2 of the following areas in their application:

• Experience in budget setting, forecasting, monitoring and reporting of expenditure.
• Experience in the preparation or review of statutory or management accounts.
• Experience in the use of an integrated financial management system, linked reporting tools and advanced spreadsheets skills.
