Confidential in Barnsley is recruiting an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established business. You will own the transactional finance function, including purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control, working closely with the Finance Manager.

This hands-on role suits an organised finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys ownership, and seeks development with exposure to international suppliers and currencies.

Qualifications

• Experience as Assistant Accountant or similar role.
• AAT qualification or studying towards.
• Strong Excel skills (SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP).
• Experience with foreign currency transactions is beneficial.
• Knowledge of accruals, prepayments and fixed assets is beneficial.
• Experience using Sage accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily GBP and USD bank reconciliations with PayPal, Sage Pay and other platforms.
• Manage the purchase ledger: invoices, credit notes, PO's and supplier statements.
• Set up and maintain supplier accounts, verify bank details and manage remittances.
• Process supplier payments weekly, monthly, and intercompany where applicable; handle expenses.
• Provide credit control support and chase overdue debt.
• Review credit card and expense expenditure with proper documentation.
• Assist with intercompany recharges and reconciliations; support import duties.
• Support month-end closes: accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, balance sheet reconciliations.
