Job Description

Assistant Accountant - Investment Bank (Hybrid) duties: The post holder will be responsible for the accounting of a number of group subsidiary companies, these duties will include:

  • Ensuring that the ledgers are maintained accurately and in accordance with procedures.
  • Preparing the monthly management accounts in accordance with the timetable.
  • Providing commentary and explanations to management where required on the performance reported.
  • Maintaining cash books and the timely reconciliation of bank accounts for those companies that the postholder is responsible for.

To be responsible for ensuring that the Portfolio Management Systems is accurate and up to date at all times, for those group companies under the postholder's remit. To include:Ensuring that all balances reconcile to Sage ledgers.

  • Ensuring the accuracy of the profiles of investments for the calculation of interest and fees and for the collection of cash.
  • Ensuring that all adjustments to investments and profiles are requested and dealt with in a timely manner in accordance with procedures.
  • Ensuring that all anomalies and discrepancies are dealt with by the appropriate investment team in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that all arrears are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the direct debit run.
  • Ensuring the consistency and reasonableness of data entered by the investment teams.
  • Support the Financial Controller on all aspects of Treasury Management for the Group:
  • Assist in cashflow forecasting and management of cash balances.
  • Postings for all treasury operations for multiple entities.
  • Monthly treasury reporting.

The post holder is responsible for liaising and discussing issues with Department Managers, Fund Managers and Executives to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data provided within the key financial systems and bringing problems to a successful conclusion.

  • Support the Financial Controller/Financial Reporting Accountant in respect of the Fair Value accounting e.g. production of year end fair value reporting and disclosures on equity investments in association with investment managers.
  • Support the Financial Reporting Accountant with the production of figures and disclosures for the loan book under IFRS 9.
  • Oversee the direct debit collection process to ensure accuracy and completeness of cash collection.

To provide cover elsewhere in the department as required to ensure the smooth running of the Finance Department at peak times and during absence, and to provide training and assistance to others in the use of finance systems and procedures.

  • To assist in and make suggestions for the improving of finance systems within the group to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • To liaise and handle queries with the external and internal auditors, suppliers, clients, and banks as required.
  • Any other task as may be defined by the Financial Reporting Accountant to meet the operational needs of the department.

The Successful Applicant

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good numerical skills and the ability to problem solve and be a logical thinker.
  • AAT qualified, or equivalent.
  • GCSE/ NVQ level including English and Maths or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of common office systems, particularly the use of Advanced Excel.
  • Willing to learn and develop in the role itself and through additional accounting training.
