Job summary

Crane Building Services and Utilities (BS&U) in Ipswich is seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide key financial support across banking, VAT, fixed assets and month-end closing. You will work with the UK-wide cash pool, prepare journals, and assist auditors.

The role requires AAT or equivalent, strong Excel, ERP experience (QAD a plus), and familiarity with SOX/UK GAAP. You will collaborate with site finance teams on budgets and cost reviews, while supporting continuous improvement

Qualifications

• AAT or qualified by experience.
• Strong MS Excel skills.
• Previous experience of an integrated ERP system - QAD would be an advantage.
• Experience of working in a manufacturing business would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of SOX/ US GAAP/UK GAAP would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Own daily banking activities and manage multiple accounts and currencies in a UK cash pool.
• Prepare supplier payments and monthly payments.
• Prepare VAT returns and monthly payments.
• Prepare and post month-end journals.
• Complete month-end balance sheet reconciliations using Blackline.
• Manage fixed assets across three sites; post depreciation and handle additions/disposals.
• Enter leases into CoStar; post costs and reconcile balance sheet and P&L.
• Assist with audit information preparation and auditor questions.
• Collate annual Tax Pack for external tax advisors.
• Support monthly and annual SOX reviews.
• Identify and implement improvement ideas; participate in continuous improvement events.
• Review monthly costs with department managers and set annual budgets.
