Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is partnering with a manufacturing organisation to appoint an Assistant Accountant for an initial 6-month contract, working on-site in Huntingdon. You will support the finance function, assist month-end processes and drive improvements across financial controls.

Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you will develop cashflow forecasts, prepare management accounts and contribute to cost reporting and budgeting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
• AAT/CIMA part-qualified or actively studying towards a professional qualification.
• Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, SUMIFs, VLOOKUPs).
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily and monthly cashflow forecasts.
• Assist with monthly management accounts: Trial Balance, Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, variance analysis with commentary.
• Reconcile control accounts and post journals (sales, cost of sales, payroll).
• Maintain fixed asset register and process depreciation.
• Support budgeting and monthly cost reporting to department managers.
• Assist with year-end processes and financial analysis.
• Conduct financial reporting and ad hoc investigations.
• Perform daily banking and bank reconciliations.
• Support VAT return preparation (quarterly).
• Calculate product gross margins and contribute to internal controls.

Reporting into the Senior Management Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function and contributing to continuous improvement across financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain daily and monthly cashflow forecasts
• Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including:
• Trial Balance
• Profit & Loss
• Balance Sheet
• Variance analysis with commentary

• Post accruals, prepayments, and other journals (including sales, cost of sales, and payroll)
• Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation
• Support budgeting processes and monthly cost reporting to department managers
• Assist with year-end processes and financial analysis
• Conduct financial reporting and ad hoc investigations
• Perform daily banking activities and bank reconciliations
• Support VAT return preparation (quarterly)
• Calculate product gross margins
• Contribute to the development of financial systems and internal controls

About You

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing environment is essential
• AAT/CIMA part-qualified or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Confident communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally
• Proactive, self-motivated, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
• Advanced Excel skills (including pivot tables, SUMIFs, VLOOKUPs)
