NXTGEN Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its Norwich-based finance team. You’ll support monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and manufacturer reporting, combining hands-on accounting with process improvement.

This role suits someone with AAT Level 3 (or equivalent), strong numerical skills and comfort with MS Excel, looking to develop month-end experience within a growing motor retail business.

• Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and follow up outstanding items.
• Assist with monthly manufacturer reporting and process weekly manufacturer bonuses.
• Authorize daily payments in line with company procedures.
• Monitor outstanding and ageing debt and report on overdue balances.
• Support vehicle and parts stocktakes and investigate variances.
• Respond to management accounts queries and escalate discrepancies.
• Identify improvements to financial processes and reporting with the Management Accountants.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

NXTGEN is working with an established, business to recruit an Assistant Accountant for its finance team. This Assistant Accountant position offers the opportunity to develop your month-end experience within a team where people have progressed.

As Assistant Accountant, you'll work closely with the Management Accountants to prepare monthly management accounts and manufacturer reporting. You'll also work with department managers to investigate discrepancies, answer queries and help them understand the financial performance of their site.

The role combines hands-on accounting with analysis and process improvement, giving you exposure to how finance supports the day-to-day running of a motor retail business.

Key responsibilities as Assistant Accountant

• Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals and prepayments
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, investigate differences and follow up outstanding items
• Assist with monthly manufacturer reporting and process weekly manufacturer bonuses
• Authorise daily payments in line with company procedures
• Monitor outstanding and ageing debt, following up and reporting on overdue balances
• Support vehicle and parts stocktakes, investigate variances and report findings to management
• Respond to management accounts queries and highlight discrepancies or control concerns
• Work with the Management Accountants to identify improvements to financial processes and reporting
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

What we're looking for

You’ll have experience within a busy accounts department and be keen to build on your accounting knowledge. AAT Level 3 or an equivalent qualification is preferred, although candidates qualified by experience will also be considered.

Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and confidence using Microsoft packages are essential. You’ll be comfortable investigating discrepancies, communicating with colleagues across the business and following queries through to resolution.

Knowledge of Pinnacle DMS would be useful, but isnt essential.

This Assistant Accountant role is based on site in Norwich and would suit someone looking to broaden their experience in management accounts while contributing to an expanding business.
