About the role: You will provide wide-ranging financial support across all aspects of the team and the wider finance function and support the Children, Family & Education Directorate at Wirral Council, offering the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders, including budget holders, Head Teachers, and School Support Staff.
The schools Statutory Finance Team is responsible for managing both the government funded schools' budget (Dedicated Schools Grant) and the council-funded budget for the Education function.
Working alongside a Finance Business Partner (FBP), the Assistant Accountant will provide timely financial information to budget holders, enabling informed decision-making and supporting the achievement of their objectives. You will assist the Finance Manager and FBP in developing management reporting and budget monitoring processes, with an emphasis on improving the quality of financial information, systems, and reporting tools whilst supporting the day-to-day administrative and transactional aspects of finance as this is a key responsibility of the post.
You will be passionate about improving public sector services, be a team player along with strong communication skills, as the role involves liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience working as a finance specialist is essential; however, prior knowledge of schools or education is not required.
