Role: Assistant Accountant

Location: Hybrid

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary:Up to £29,000 per annum

Contract: Perm

Are you an organised, detail-focused finance professional eager to develop your career in a supportive and dynamic environment? We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team, providing essential accounting support to our rented and extra care housing services.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and post accounting entries including re-codes, re-charges, accruals, and pre-payments
  • Review and report on service charge and revenue variances with insightful commentary
  • Support the annual budgeting process, providing guidance and training to operational teams
  • Provide first-line finance support and training to operational colleagues via various communication channels
  • Prepare balance sheet and fund account reconciliations in line with deadlines
  • Help operational managers develop financial management skills through proactive support and advice
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Work collaboratively with the wider finance team and contribute to continuous process improvements

What We’re Looking For

  • AAT qualification (or equivalent experience) or willingness to undertake study
  • Experience in a customer-focused finance role, preferably within housing or a large multi-site organisation
  • Strong understanding of service charge legislation and housing finance processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Excel and IT skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Willingness to travel occasionally across UK locations
