Job description

Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be working alongside a long-standing client, well-known in their industry to appoint a new role of Assistant Accountant to join their finance team in Arbroath, Angus on a full-time permanent basis. You'll be joining a family business at heart, who have grown internationally and whose team strive for excellence. A fantastic opportunity for a part-qualified Accountant, who can support the Finance Business Partner in their completion of monthly and annual accounts.

The Opportunity

As the Assistant Accountant your role will involve:

  • To prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the UK part of the business and its subsidiaries
  • Calculate journal entries, ensuring accuracy
  • To support month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of schedules and reconciliations
  • To reconcile inventory records with financial data
  • To assist with payroll processing, liaising with external payroll providers as required
  • Post payroll related journals
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Support weekly, monthly and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis

The Candidate

  • You will ideally be part-qualified in an Accounting qualification at professional level
  • Ideally proven experience working in an role where you complete accounts to Trial Balance
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel experience, and good finance systems knowledge
  • Experience in Monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, supporting month-end and year-end processes, payroll processing, VAT returns and financial reporting.
  • You will ideally have excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with an ability to manage workload and use initiative.

Terms and Benefits

  • Salary on offer - £30,000 - £35,000 depending on experience
  • Pension 3% employer / 5% employee contributions
  • Ideally fully office working, but maybe consider 1 day working from home
  • 37.5 hour working week - Monday to Friday (Flexible start/finish times)
  • Optional BUPA scheme

  • 30 days annual leave
