Job Description:

Our Asset Lead (Structures) will sit within the Asset Investment team, reporting to the Asset Investment Manager. This role will work closely with the rest of the Connect Plus Team, Connect Plus Services (the O&M Company), and other key project stakeholders, to oversee all asset management activities for highways structures assets (i.e., bridges, viaducts, gantries, tunnels, retaining walls, etc.).

From a client-side perspective, this role will own and improve asset management strategies for structures assets in line with DBFO’s hand-back requirements, provide strategic guidance and support to the business, enabling effective and consistent roll-out & execution of asset management strategies, and continuously drive asset management excellence to mature the approach.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work within the Project Company (SPV) of a major infrastructure project and directly interface with senior stakeholders, parent company, and a range of supply chain partners across the entire lifecycle of highways structures assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Project Sponsor in gateway meetings for structures assets lifecycle renewal projects (up to £30m per year), ensuring projects deliver expected benefits within budget; portfolio includes iconic projects such as QEII Bridge, Dartford Tunnels.
  • Collaborate with asset delivery team to optimize scope and delivery methodologies, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Champion innovation, efficiency, and carbon reduction throughout the gateway process.
  • Own and lead the continuous improvement of asset management strategies for highway structures assets across their full lifecycle, including inspection, maintenance, and renewal phases.
  • Support and influence the development of the Asset Management Forward Plan, ensuring investments deliver benefits (risk mitigation, condition improvements, etc.) and meet strategic objectives and performance indicators.
  • Desirable: understanding of Asset Management IT systems, particularly Asset Investment Planning Toolkits.
  • Promote and share best practices in asset management, linking with parent companies and relevant institutes.

Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer with solid technical understanding of infrastructure assets, preferably structures in highways or rail sectors.
  • Proven experience in sponsoring or managing complex infrastructure asset renewal projects.
  • Ability to make informed technical decisions, drive projects forward, and balance stakeholder requirements.
  • Proactive professional, capable of autonomous operation within a senior team.
