Job summary

Thorn Baker Industrial in Heanor (DE75 area) seeks an Assembly Operative for a full-time role, Monday to Friday with immediate start. You will assemble components, perform quality checks, and help maintain production flow on a clean and safe shop floor.

Basic pay is £12.71 per hour, with overtime paid at an enhanced rate. Training will be provided, and you will rotate across tasks to gain skills while contributing to efficient workflows.

Qualifications

  • Previous assembly experience preferred but training provided.
  • Experience with sewing machines advantageous.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a diverse team.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble various components with precision and accuracy following established guidelines and drawings.
  • Conduct quality checks at every stage of the assembly process to ensure products meet required standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety and operational procedures.
  • Report any defects, irregularities, or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with team members and support other departments as needed to meet production goals.
  • Monitor and maintain tools, equipment, and materials to ensure functionality and efficiency.
  • Continuously contribute ideas for improving efficiency, quality, and workflows.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in assembly or a related field is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
  • Experience in operating a sewing machine would be advantageous
  • Strong manual dexterity and the ability to handle small and intricate materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset with the ability to work under minimal supervision.

Day-to-Day
  • Begin your shift with a team briefing outlining daily targets, safety updates, and workflow strategies.
  • Assemble components according to specifications, ensuring accuracy and meeting production deadlines.
  • Conduct routine quality checks to identify and address any defects or inconsistencies.
  • Maintain an organized workspace and ensure that tools and supplies are easily accessible.
  • Communicate with team members and supervisors to support smooth operations and problem-solving.
  • Rotate between tasks or departments as needed to meet production priorities and enhance your skills.
  • Wrap up each day by organizing your workstation, documenting production progress, and preparing for the next shift.
The shift times are:

07:30-16:00 Monday to Thursday, 07:30-13:00 Friday.

OR

06:00-14:00 / 14:00-22:00 Monday to Friday rotating weekly.

The basic pay is £12.71/h, overtime is paid on enhanced rate.
