Join our Aspiring Teacher Programme and start making a difference in secondary schools across Tameside and Greater Manchester. This is the ideal opportunity to gain real-world school experience before applying for a PGCE, SCITT, or another teacher training route — or to simply explore whether teaching is right for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working in mainstream secondary schools (ages 11–16), you'll take on a variety of dynamic and rewarding roles:
• Cover Supervisor – Lead lessons using pre-set materials and manage classroom behaviour
• Teaching Assistant – Support learning one-on-one or in small groups
• Mentor – Inspire and guide students to reach their potential
You’ll gain a well-rounded understanding of life in schools while being fully supported by both Cover People and our partner schools.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment
• Support lesson delivery and engage pupils in learning
• Assist teachers with planning and classroom organisation
• Provide encouragement and motivation to students
• Build strong relationships with staff and pupils
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from enthusiastic and proactive individuals who are:
• Recent graduates (BSc, MSc, PhD, or equivalent)
• Passionate about education and making a difference
• Confident communicators with strong interpersonal skills
• Comfortable managing classroom behaviour
• Eager to learn and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with young people is highly valued, but not essential.
Requirements
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply via Cover People)
• Availability for full-time school hours (8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday – flexible)
