An inclusive and friendly Special Needs School are looking for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join them full-time in September. As an LSA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and associated challenging behaviours. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist to gain experience supporting children to overcome communication barriers.
You will work closely with a small class of 8 students, liaising with the class teacher, therapists and support staff to help all students flourish. You will play an instrumental role in developing the independence, social skills and communication of students, as well as their physical and creative developmental. You will ensure all pupils are supported emotionally, and help them navigate their own feelings and emotions. You will also help encourage different ways to communicate, and learn specialist communication methods, such as Makaton, PECS and TEACHH.
As a Graduate, this LSA role will provide you with the experience and understanding required to become a Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Educational Psychologist in the future. You will gain an insight into the approach used by multi-therapy teams, and how to increase language acquisition in children.
The school are looking for a bubbly and friendly Graduate with a passion for supporting others, and a positive attitude. A degree in Psychology, Criminology, English or Linguistics would be beneficial.
