Job description

Are you an aspiring Speech and Language Therapist with a passion for working with children with Autism and associated Complex Social Needs? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to gain paid experience in this field.

GSL Education are seeking passionate and dedicated graduate learning support assistants for a specialist school. The school caters to children with Autism and associated complex social needs, with classes of no more than 6 students at a time. The curriculum is tailored to each student's ability and is focused on Early Years and Primary education.

This is an ideal opportunity for graduates with aspirations in Occupational Therapy, Child Development, or associated therapies, as it provides hands-on experience working with children who have speech, language, and social communication needs. To qualify for this role, you must have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, as well as 9-12 months of paid experience in the relevant sectors.

The school is an all-through SEN school, catering for children aged 3-16, with classes of no more than 6 students at any one time. The curriculum is tailored to each student's ability, not their age, and the focus is on EYS and Primary education due to the diverse learning levels of the students. Many of the children have SPCLN challenges, are non-verbal, or selectively mute, making this an ideal opportunity to gain experience in these specific areas.

The role requires elements of personal care and is focused on learning through play and achieving marginal gains that can evolve into sustainable progress. You will work alongside outstanding teaching and support teams in a holistic and positive atmosphere.

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
