Job summary

AMA Admin is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a South Shields primary school. The role supports children with anxiety, SEND and emotional needs, offering hands-on experience for aspiring educational/forensic psychologists or occupational therapists.

You will work in a small class team, focusing on personalised learning, emotional regulation and rebuilding pupil confidence. Salary £107.17–£115/day, term-time, 8.30am–3.30pm, with good transport links and nearby parking.

Qualifications

• Graduate or current Learning Support Assistant seeking experience in psychology or therapy.
• Ability to support pupils with anxiety, autism and additional learning needs.
• Willingness to work within a multi-disciplinary education team.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups throughout the school day.
• Help children who experience anxiety or school refusal feel safe and supported.
• Build positive relationships to help pupils trust adults in education.
• Encourage communication, confidence and emotional regulation.
• Support activities that promote independence and life skills.
• Assist with transitions, routines and social situations.
• Work with teachers and therapists to implement support plans.
• Foster engagement with learning through patience and consistency.
