Aspiring Probation Officer - Guildford - Social Care - Social, Emotional & Mental Health - SEMH - Graduate - Psychology - Criminology

Are you a recent Psychology or Criminology Graduate looking to kick-start your career in the Mental Health Sector?

Are you interested in a role where you can support the mental health of vulnerable young people?

A well-respected specialist school near Guildford is seeking an Aspiring Probation Officer to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students are aged between 10 and 16 years old, with some having experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Your role will involve identifying their risks and needs, escalating concerns when necessary. The students need a dedicated, empathetic individual who can be a consistent role model, build strong relationships, and handle challenging situations.

Many children and young people with special educational needs face marginalisation, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment, and stigma. They often encounter barriers that put them at risk of negative outcomes. Your support will help provide consistency and equip them with tools to feel safe, secure, empowered, and confident in their potential to succeed.

This role is challenging, and previous experience in a relevant field is advantageous but not essential. Training, support, and CPD will be provided to help you perform your duties and ensure safeguarding for all students.

The ideal candidate will be open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. Experience with SEN children and/or adults in any setting is desirable. Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or Counselling are also encouraged to apply.

If you're looking to start your career in Social Care, Psychology, Mental Health, or Education, this Aspiring Probation Officer position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact on children's and young people's lives.

Start date: ASAP - Guildford

Salary: £80-£100 per day, Mon-Fri, 8.30am-4pm, term time only

Benefits: Excellent on-site education, training, support, and CPD to ensure safeguarding of all students
