Location:Reading
Salary:£101.40 per day
Start Date:September 2025 and Immediate starts, depending on your availability
Contract:Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30 am – 3:30 pm), Term Time Only
Duration:Until the end of the academic year, with potential for a permanent role

Milk Education is recruiting for aLearning Support Assistant (LSA)role in a specialist school inReading, supportingvulnerable children with an EHCP for their mental health. These children have often beenexposed to trauma and may be at risk of manipulation or county lines involvement. The school takes arestorative, nurturing approach, focusing onbuilding trust before academic progress – connecting before content.

This role is anexcellent stepping stonefor aspiringFamily Support Workers, Youth Workers, Social Workers, or those interested in safeguarding, psychology, or criminal justice.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Building strong, trusting relationshipswith students to provide emotional and academic support.
  • Supporting children who haveexperienced trauma, social exclusion, or difficult home environments.
  • De-escalating challenging behavioursusing therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Assisting teachers in deliveringstructured, inclusive lessonstailored to emotional needs.
  • Encouraging resilience, independence, and social skillsto help pupils re-engage with education.
  • Working withtherapists, pastoral staff, and safeguarding teamsto ensure children receive the right interventions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Graduates in Youth & Community Work, Psychology, Criminology, Social Work, or related fields.
  • Aspiring Family Support Workers, Youth Workers, Social Workers, or Safeguarding Officers.
  • Individuals with a deep understanding of trauma, vulnerability, and mental health challenges.
  • Understanding– Knowing your own why and sincerity base is incredibly important,
  • Those who can offerempathy, patience, and a restorative approachto working with children.
  • Candidates withexperience (voluntary or paid) working with young people in challenging circumstances(desirable but not essential – training provided).
