Job Description:

Are you motivated by supporting and helping vulnerable children?

Do you know your reasons for wanting to work in the SEND and Mental Health Sectors?

GSL is looking for Learning Support Assistants to support children with challenging behaviour profiles, which may include social, emotional, and mental health difficulties or traumas. Some children may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, and you will help identify their risks and support their needs, escalating to senior staff when necessary.

You will join a friendly, energetic, and creative team. Working within children’s mental health, trauma, and neurodivergent provisions is challenging, but we will help you focus on the sectors most suited to you.

A passion for aiding the learning of young people with SEMH through creative, visual, practical, and academic approaches is essential.

The school in East London seeks graduates in social sciences, youth studies, psychology, criminology, or similar fields but will consider non-graduates, emphasizing sincerity, compassion, enthusiasm, and inspiration.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you may encounter children sharing personal information. Your reactions must align with the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy. We can assist you in understanding these regulations.

This role offers opportunities to work closely with therapists, expanding your knowledge and gaining practical experience, ideal for those aspiring to careers in psychotherapy, occupational therapy, educational psychology, or speech & language therapy.

Many children with special educational needs face marginalisation, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, and low attainment, which increase their risk of negative outcomes. Your role will be vital in providing consistency and equipping children with tools to feel safe, secure, and empowered to succeed.
