ASD Teaching Assistant (TA) – Secondary
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £84 - £110 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term

Do you have the patience, empathy and energy to support students with autism in a secondary setting?

If you're passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), we want to hear from you! A welcoming secondary school is seeking a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant in Sunderland to join their team and support students with additional needs in both academic and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with ASD, helping them access the curriculum and stay engaged in learning.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and classroom strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through calm, consistent support.
  • Foster independence, communication, and confidence in students with varying abilities.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and parents to monitor and support student progress.
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism (in education, care, or similar).
  • Strong communication, patience, and behaviour management skills.
  • A calm and supportive approach, with a genuine interest in SEN education.
  • An understanding of ASD and strategies for supporting sensory, emotional, and social needs.
  • A relevant qualification in education or support is desirable.
  • A valid, enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
