Job description

Job Title: ASD Learning Support Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £85–£100 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term

Looking for a role where you can build meaningful relationships and help children thrive both one-to-one and in the classroom?

We’re looking for an ASD Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Newcastle, supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is more than a classroom role—it’s about being that trusted person a pupil can rely on, while also having the confidence to support the flow of learning across the wider classroom when needed.

This school is built on relationships, kindness, and teamwork. Every child is seen as an individual with their own needs and strengths. You’ll work closely with pupils who need consistent, patient one-to-one guidance—and you’ll also support the teaching team to create an inclusive, engaging classroom environment where every child can feel part of the group.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing calm, consistent one-to-one support to a child with ASD, both in and outside of lessons

  • Assisting with classroom routines, supporting learning for the whole class as needed

  • Helping children develop emotional regulation, confidence, and communication skills

  • Encouraging positive choices and celebrating progress—big or small

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure tailored, joined-up support

We’re looking for someone who brings patience, empathy, and confidence to everything they do. You’ll need the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children, particularly those who need steady, consistent one-to-one support. Just as importantly, you’ll be confident stepping into the wider classroom, helping the whole group engage with learning and feel supported. Experience working with children with ASD is important, but what really matters is your ability to stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and bring a proactive, positive attitude to every part of the school day.

  • Personalised support from a consultant who understands SEND
