Job summary

Atomic Weapons Establishment is recruiting an Asbestos Management Practitioner for the Radiochemistry Group. The role is fully onsite near RG7 4PR, with a 9-day fortnight, and extensive responsibilities for surveys, records, and regulatory compliance.

You will maintain asbestos data, support CAR Reg 4, and help develop the Asbestos Management Plan while advancing towards analyst qualifications. Applicants should have P402/P405 and/or RSPH Level 3, with strong attention to detail and clear

Responsibilities

  • Complete required training, qualifications, and site assessments to demonstrate technical competence

  • Maintain accurate asbestos records updating inspection data and the Asbestos Data Management System
  • Support CAR Reg 4 compliance by applying management controls and updating risk scores
  • Maintain a register of ACMs and input into the Asbestos Management Plan
  • Schedule and document routine ACM inspections, typically every 12 months
  • Ensure personnel managing asbestos have completed appropriate training
  • Work within health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements

**Asbestos Management Practitioner****Location:** **RG7 4PR**, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with **free onsite parking**.**Package: Starting from £29,490** (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)**Working Pattern:**AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with **every other Friday as a non-working day.** For this role, employees are required to work fully onsite. Could this role be the opportunity for you to play your part?**AWE is currently recruiting for an **Asbestos Management Practitioner** for the **Radiochemistry Group.** This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail focused Asbestos Management Practitioner to support the safe and compliant management of asbestos information across AWE.Responsibilities include:* Complete all required training, qualifications, and site assessments to demonstrate technical competence for the role.* Carry out asbestos surveys by safely inspecting buildings, structures, and equipment, taking samples, and assessing the condition, type, location, and risk of asbestos-containing materials.* Maintain accurate asbestos records by updating inspection/survey data, condition assessments, and the Asbestos Data Management System.* Support continued compliance with CAR Reg 4 by applying management controls, informing facility management of damaged materials, updating risk scores, and recording asbestos removal or remedial works.* Actively maintain a register detailing the location, type, amount, and condition of all Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACMs) or presumed ACMs.* Provide input into an overarching Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) linked to the database.* Schedule and document routine inspections of ACM conditions, typically every 12 months.* Track and verify that everyone tasked with managing or maintaining the asbestos have completed the appropriate level of training.* Work in line with relevant health and safety legislation, AWE standards and regulatory requirements, including the Control of Asbestos Regulations.* Opportunity to work towards becoming a fully training asbestos analyst.**Who are we looking for?****Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:*** Knowledge of current asbestos legislation, regulations and standards, including the ability to work within defined compliance requirements.* BOHS P402 and/or P405 certification, RSPH Level 3, or equivalent relevant experience/qualification.* Experience with surveys, inspections, or compliance systems would be beneficial but is not essential.* Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage information accurately and keep records current.* Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to share information clearly with a range of stakeholders.* Working within a highly regulated or secure environment.* Supporting or maintaining an Asbestos Management Plan or similar compliance framework.**Work hard, be rewarded:**We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters.
