  • TYSR Analysis is opening a brand-new asbestos laboratory and seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead day-to-day operations. This is an exciting opportunity to be the first in the door of a high-growth business with a clear pathway to a Director-level role. We’re looking for an experienced lab manager ready to take the next step in their career and help shape the future of our laboratory from the ground up.

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone looking to grow with the business and progress into a Director-level position. You’ll be responsible for ensuring technical compliance, operational efficiency, and the highest quality standards in line with UKAS and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all day-to-day laboratory functions, including sample receipt, analysis, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure adherence across the team.
  • Ensure turnaround times are met and customer expectations are exceeded.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with UKAS accreditation and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Maintain and continually improve the lab’s Quality Management System.
  • Lead and prepare for UKAS audits, including internal audits, reviews, and non-conformance investigations.

Team Management

  • Recruit, train, and manage a growing team of analysts and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and support career development.

Health & Safety

  • Maintain a safe working environment in line with HSE guidance and laboratory best practices.
  • Ensure staff are fully trained in PPE use, safe handling, and asbestos awareness.

Client Interaction & Reporting

  • Act as the technical lead for client queries, test result interpretation, and reporting standards.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including clients, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

Strategic Growth

  • Work closely with senior leadership to shape lab strategy, capacity planning, and innovation.
  • Help drive long-term growth and take on wider leadership responsibilities as the business scales.
