Job description

Title: Artist Engagement Manager

Reports to: Arts Director

Based in London and operating in 25+ countries, we work with and represent exciting emerging to mid-career talent in London and internationally. We support our clients to build collections and experiences, giving them unrivalled access to the cultural world.

Purpose of the role:

The Artist Engagement Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the strategic goals of the Arts Department, aligning with the company’s vision. This individual will leverage their extensive artworld connections and curatorial expertise to enhance the company’s artist network, foster partnerships, and oversee the development of artist opportunities and annual program of engagement events.

In this role, engagement involves building strong relationships with our existing network of artists, designing programs that elevate their visibility and growth, and actively responding to their needs with tailored strategies. It also includes creating meaningful opportunities for artists to connect with clients, projects, and the wider arts community.

Reporting directly to the Arts Director, the Artist Engagement Manager will be a key driver of the team’s success, ensuring exceptional outcomes for our artists, clients, and the wider business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Artist Community Development: Cultivate and maintain Artiq’s existing network of artists, focusing on positioning them in the most impactful way that translates into project sales and rentals. Source and sign artists who align with the client portfolio, particularly in workplace and hospitality projects. Build and manage international artist networks to expand the company’s global reach. Expand our rental model into project focused regions with contractual agreements in place, spotlighting exciting emerging talent.
  2. Management Excellence: Oversee database management to ensure efficient tracking of artists, projects, and opportunities. Ensure best practices in art handling, logistics, and licensing to support seamless project delivery working closely with our Operations Manager. Collaborate with the Arts Director on reporting monthly and quarterly KPIs, ensuring transparency and alignment with strategic objectives.
  3. Negotiation and Compliance: Handle artist contracts and negotiations with precision and professionalism. Ensure compliance with all contractual agreements, licensing requirements, and logistics arrangements.
  4. Partnerships and Collaboration: Liaise with potential artworld partners and institutions to create beneficial opportunities for our community of artists. Continue to deliver our existing annual artist programs, including mentorships, portfolio reviews, and residency opportunities. Refining and enhancing the offering as necessary.
  5. Leadership and Team Management: Lead and inspire a team with a people-focused and impact driven leadership style. Use data-driven strategies to set and achieve the departmental goals. Foster a collaborative team environment and actively contribute as a team player.
  6. Community Engagement and Advocacy: Represent the Arts Department at public events, advocating for artists and the company’s initiatives. Design and execute creative events to highlight the artist community and differentiate the company from competitors.

What we’re looking for:

  1. Art World Expertise: Focused knowledge of the artworld, including curatorial practices, consumer trends and artist liaison requirements.
  2. Network and Relationships: Proven connections with high-calibre artists and art institutions. Ability to support artists on a personal level, to encourage their growth and development.
  3. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a small team effectively.
  4. Negotiation Skills: Expertise in contracts, negotiations, and building artist relationships.
  5. Adaptability: Flexibility to respond to the evolving needs of artists and clients.
  6. Data-Driven: Strong analytical skills to drive decision-making and performance measurement.
  7. Public Speaking: Excellent communication and advocacy skills for engaging diverse audiences.
  8. Creative Vision: Ability to conceptualise and execute innovative events and programs, working to budget and timelines.
  9. Operational Skills: Proficiency in database management with an understanding of art handling logistics.

Salary: £40,000 plus discretionary bonus.
