ART TUTOR: Part Time - Prison Education - HMP Erlestoke

Location: HMP Erlestoke, Erlestoke House, Erlestoke, Devizes, SN10 5TU

Hours: 19 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Mon-Thurs mornings - 8:00am-12:45pm)

Salary: Up to £19,326 pro rata (£38,144 FTE) Subject to experience

Apprenticeships: Development opportunities are available through Apprenticeship standards

Milton Keynes College Group is proud to support talented and passionate learners who attend the art classes within our prison-based education departments. We are seeking an Art Tutor to join the Education Team based at HMP Erlestoke to deliver Art classes to diverse groups of learners.

As a successful Art Tutor, you will inspire and deliver exciting and engaging Art classes where learners can develop not only their creative skills, but also softer skills, confidence, and personal progress they can apply to other areas of their education and life upon release. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse group of learners in the prison and have a lasting positive impact on their educational experience.

Teaching qualifications are beneficial but not essential and can be gained whilst in post.

About HMP Erlestoke

HMP Erlestoke is a Category C prison, holding approximately 444 adult male sentenced offenders. The prison is built on the former grounds of Erlestoke Manor House and has expanded in both offender numbers and intervention programmes. HMP Erlestoke’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing re-offending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational-based training, and education, in a pro-social environment.

Courses at HMP Erlestoke include Maths, English, IT, Horticulture, Carpentry, Cleaning and Support Services, Hospitality, Creative Craft, Customer Service, Team Leading, Learning Support, and much more.

The education delivery hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 11:15am, 2:00pm - 4:30pm and on Fridays 8:30am - 11:15am.

Erlestoke staff and learners get involved with various projects each year. In 24/25, Erlestoke held an archaeological dig and a two-week Arts festival “Penned Up” giving learners the opportunity to hear from authors refreshing attitudes, thinking, and developing a focus on reading.

Erlestoke issues an internal magazine highlighting various events, projects, and support alongside articles, interviews, and shared experiences as well as promoting well-being and education.
