Job summary

Supply Desk is recruiting an Art Technician for a full-time role in Slough, starting October 2026. You will support teachers and pupils in delivering engaging art sessions, set up workshops, manage materials, and help display student artwork across the school.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, proactive, with strong health and safety awareness and safeguarding knowledge, including an enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative when preparing resources and practical activities.
• Hands-on approach to supporting teachers and students.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and encourage creativity and confidence.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures when working with art materials and equipment.
• Proactive, adaptable and organised approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and effective learning activities.
• Set up and clear away classrooms, workshops, and practical workspaces before and after lessons. Ensure art equipment and materials are stored safely, securely, and appropriately.
• Assist teachers and students with the safe and effective use of art equipment and materials.
• Support students during practical activities, helping them to develop their confidence and independence.
• Provide one-to-one or small group support to students where appropriate.
• Assist with a range of art techniques and processes, including drawing, painting, printing, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media.
• Help maintain an organised, stimulating, and creative learning environment.
• Support the preparation and display of students' artwork throughout the school.
• Assist with exhibitions, displays, school events, competitions, and other art-related activities where required.
• Monitor stock levels of art materials and equipment and report when supplies need to be ordered or replaced.
• Assist with maintaining an appropriate inventory of equipment and resources.
• Ensure practical areas are kept clean, tidy, and safe, following relevant health and safety procedures.
• Report damaged or faulty equipment and any health and safety concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
• Work collaboratively with Art and Design teachers, teaching assistants, technicians, and the wider school team.
• Support students who may have additional learning needs, including SEND, helping them to participate fully in practical activities.
• Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.
