Job description

The Art Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and high standards of the Art Department, which includes an Art Studio and Ceramic Studio. We are seeking a highly motivated and efficient subject specialist to support with maintaining studio and workshop facilities, managing resources, and ensuring health and safety compliance.

The Art Technician supports the Head of Art and students by providing technical expertise, overseeing equipment and material maintenance, and facilitating a conducive learning environment. The role is for 3 hours per day (15 hours per week - with some degree of flexibility), term time only.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the department is resourced, organised and developed to meet the needs of the creative courses
  • Developing and maintaining specialist resources
  • Liaising and networking with suppliers to secure competitive prices
  • Ensuring accurate records are made to track the department budget
  • Demonstration and assistance to the Head of Art and students, in workshops and on individual basis in the use of apparatus and equipment, materials and processes
  • Assisting in the Art department with general administration
  • Willingness to undertake any additional training as required
  • Willingness to adapt to changing demands and priorities
Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant subject area or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in supporting teaching and learning through technical support
  • Experience in ceramics and the use of a Kiln
  • Experience of printmaking processes and set up requirements
  • Able to relate well and respond to learners of all abilities
  • Empathy with and strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students
  • Proficient in using and maintaining a variety of art-related equipment and materials
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety
