Creative Art Instructor – SEMH Setting (Halstead)

Are you a passionate artist or creative soul who loves helping young people find their voice through art?

Do you have experience working with students with SEMH or SEN needs — and a knack for turning creative expression into confidence and calm?

If so, we’d love for you to join our team in Halstead!

About Us

We’re a warm and welcoming SEMH school in Halstead, where creativity is at the heart of everything we do.
Our students thrive when given the space to explore, express, and experiment — and that’s where you come in!
Through art, we help young people build self-esteem, emotional resilience, and the confidence to see the world in new ways.

The Role

As our Art Instructor, you’ll lead small, engaging sessions that bring out the best in every student.
You’ll use art as a bridge for connection, communication, and self-discovery — no two days (or paintings!) will be the same.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan and deliver creative, hands-on art sessions that spark curiosity and confidence.
  • Introduce students to different styles, mediums, and techniques — from sketching to sculpture.
  • Build trusting relationships and create a calm, encouraging space for self-expression.
  • Use art as a tool to support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with our supportive team to promote holistic growth in every learner.
What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a qualified teacher (QTS not essential!) — what matters most is your creativity, empathy, and understanding of SEMH or SEN learners.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience working with young people in SEMH, SEN, or alternative education settings.
  • A strong background in art, creative education, or youth work.
  • Patience, positivity, and a passion for helping others grow.
  • The ability to adapt and engage students through creative approaches.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting young people (enhanced DBS required).
Why Join Us?
  • Supportive, creative, and close-knit school community in Halstead.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and training.
  • The chance to change lives through art — and have fun doing it!
  • Potential for long-term or permanent roles.
