Job description

Full-Time Art Teacher Required - Leading Independent Cambridge School (September 2025 Start - Key Stage 3, 4 & 5 Essential - Potential TLR)

Our leading independent school in the intellectually rich city of Cambridge seeks a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Teacher of Art to join our thriving department and make a profound difference to the creative expression, technical skills, and aesthetic appreciation of our students across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and, crucially, Key Stage 5, commencing in September 2025. This role offers the potential for a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) for an ambitious candidate.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering highly effective and stimulating Art lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs and high aspirations of our students across all key stages.
  • Fostering students' deep understanding of key artistic concepts, principles of design, and the use of various art media and techniques, with a strong emphasis on the comprehensive demands of the A-Level specifications.
  • Encouraging rigorous experimentation, confident self-expression, and the development of unique artistic portfolios.
  • Assessing and tracking student progress in Art across all key stages, providing insightful and constructive feedback, and implementing effective intervention strategies to ensure excellent outcomes, particularly for A-Level students.
  • Contributing actively to the development, implementation, and rigorous review of the Art curriculum across all key stages, ensuring alignment with examination specifications and providing extensive opportunities for creative enrichment.
  • Utilising and contributing to the development of high-quality Art resources, including studio equipment, digital art software, and a diverse range of materials.
  • Contributing to extracurricular activities that promote artistic engagement within the school community (e.g., art clubs, exhibition visits, collaborative projects).
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues within the Art department and across the wider school to foster a rich and interdisciplinary learning environment.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and keep abreast of current developments in art education and the broader art world, with a strong focus on A-Level teaching and assessment.
  • (Potential TLR): Taking on a specific responsibility within the department, such as leading a particular key stage's curriculum, developing new artistic initiatives, or coordinating external gallery visits.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • A degree in Fine Art, Art & Design, or a closely related highly relevant creative field.
  • Successful and demonstrable experience teaching Art across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and, crucially, A-Level.
  • A strong and up-to-date understanding of the A-Level Art & Design curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
  • Exceptional pedagogical skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, particularly the academic rigour and depth required at Key Stage 5.
  • A profound passion for Art and the ability to inspire and stretch students' creative thinking, practical skills, and artistic expression.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with clear leadership potential for a TLR.
  • A steadfast commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of students and the promotion of artistic understanding within our vibrant Cambridge school community.

Join our leading Art department in Cambridge from September 2025 and play a vital role in shaping the creative talent and future success of our students across all key stages, with the potential to take on a TLR and lead!
