Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.

This post is located in Bovington Camp, home of The Armour Centre (ARMCEN) and is a British Army base located in Dorset which, together with Lulworth Camp, forms the Bovington Garrison. The camp is a matter of miles from the south coast and is part of the world heritage site that is the Jurassic Coast. The garrison consists of three barrack complexes and two forest/heathland training areas that supports the delivery of Initial Trade Training (ITT) for soldiers of the Royal Armoured Corps, the Royal Engineers and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, as well as Subsequent Trade Training (STT) for many other Defence units.

You will be working as part of a small team of military, civilian and contractor personnel providing administrative support to the Training Operations/Plans function to ensure that Service Personnel are loaded to the right course at the right time to meet Defence outputs, maximising capacity to optimise value for money to fulfil training demand.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Loading allocated courses to maximise capacity in accordance with demand and priority guidelines
  • Providing administrative support to the Distributed Training department
  • Create and manage user accounts for the MOD's Training Management Information System, ensuring role access meets user’s requirements
  • Maintaining Instructor Records with support from Armoured Fighting Vehicles Schools Regiment
  • Assisting Line Manager with the management and programming of courses for subsequent training years utilising the High Level Plan and Baseline Schedule functions of the MOD's Training Management Information System
  • Providing cover for Line Manager to include up-versioning courses and carrying out urgent date changes/instance amendments authorised by Training Operations
  • Maintaining Forecast of Events, Programme of Courses and act as a Data Champion focusing on data integrity and promoting maximum use of the MOD's Training Management Information System.
Person Specification:

  • Technically capable
  • This post requires good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn new applications for which full training will be provided.
  • A good communicator. You will be liaising with unit Training Officers to discuss bid priorities and start standard requirements for nominated personnel and resolving shortfalls/excess demand with Training Operations before processing successful applications.
  • In addition, you will have frequent contact with course deliverers and admin staff to confirm nominal rolls, make and communicate changes as necessary.
  • A good organiser. You will need to manage your own time effectively to ensure that courses are loaded to maximum capacity so being well organised is crucial to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities.

Working Arrangements:

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
