Job Summary
Headquarters Regional Command (HQ RC) is the Army’s vibrant 2-star headquarters situated in Montgomery House, Aldershot. It serves as the Army’s Landlord, delivering Real Life Support and overseeing its UK garrisons and stations, along with those in Brunei and Nepal. It is also responsible for engaging with the civil community and acts as the proponent for UK Operations.
Support Branch coordinates and delivers assurance (audit and inspection) and equipment, logistic, movements and safety support functions to sustain the Army’s firm base and protect the lived experience of our soldiers.
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Engineering Support Manager (Higher Executive Officer) to work collaboratively within a busy and dynamic headquarters in direct support of all civilian and military personnel. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective delivery of technical engineering support within the Regional Command area of responsibility.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The Technical Engineering Support Manager role is a full-time position and the successful candidate will provide leadership and management for the Equipment Support Group’s (ES Gp) Technical Services, Inspectorate of Engineer Resources (IER) and Accord Dangereux Routier (ADR) teams.
Their Responsibilities Will Include:
- Forecasting HQ RC’s demand and managing (authorising and progressing tasks, monitoring and quality auditing) its units’/organisations’ use of Army HQ service provision contracts, principally the Babcock Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) 1 to 3 and National Roadside Repair and Recovery (NRRRC) contracts
- Providing HQ RC lead and standing member of the Land Tasking Committee, responsible for regional planning and review of the Babcock MRO 1 – 3 service provision contract
- Provision of direction, and technical advice and guidance to HQ RC’s ES dependency, regarding its application and implementation of the Service’s engineering policy
- Engaging with Army HQ and Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) to support resolving problems and issues associated with Land Equipment
- Coordinate and oversee handling of all applicable Electronic Safety Notices, and in conjunction with the appropriate engineering authorities support remedial and reporting actions
- Collate, consolidate and present information relating to orders, technical instructions and correspondence, required either internally or by other directorates, agencies or organisations
- Performance management for the IER and ADR teams’ civilian and military workforce
- Tasking line management for the ES Gp’s Aspire Defence Services Limited (ADSL) administrative staff (x3)
- Being prepared to provide advice on technical infrastructure, Fixed Functional Machinery (FFM) and special tools and equipment in unit maintenance, inspection and repair facilities.
Person specification
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic manager, committed to effective service delivery and its continuous improvement. They will be flexible, assertive when required, able to cope well under pressure and communicate effectively at all levels. Whilst they will work effectively with a high degree of autonomy, they must also be able to function in a team environment.
Desirable:
- An NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering.
- Previous experience of electrical or mechanical engineering management and/or providing technical equipment support.
- Proficient in I.T. and skilled with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
- A Full UK Driving Licence.
