Overview

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. The Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence with an annual budget of over £10bn and around 12,000 Civil Servants at over 300 locations supporting 110k regular and reserve soldiers. The Education Branch (Ed Branch) operates, generates and assures the Army's Individual Development policies and initiatives to contribute to the people component of operational capability and maximise the Army's talent.

This post offers the opportunity to support the delivery of some of the Army's individual development policies and initiatives, focusing on the management of the Army's Low Level Language Programme, which provides tuition in a wide variety of foreign languages to Army personnel across the country and abroad. The role also supports the wider activities of Ed Branch in coordinating its financial planning and assurance activities.

The post is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Run and quality assure the delivery of the Army's Low Level Language Programme, which provides tuition in a wide variety of foreign languages to Army personnel.
  • Support the wider activities of Education Branch in coordinating the financial planning and assurance process across the Branch, maintaining business case and budgetary records and managing relationships with the budget manager and key financial contacts to ensure timely completion of monthly and annual financial returns.
  • Collaborate closely with partners from across the Army and Defence as well as external instructing contractors to ensure the programme runs efficiently and in accordance with Army policy and contractual obligations.
  • Authorise and prioritise requests for language courses, act as the main point of contact for Language and Culture tuition queries, and provide accurate and timely data to support planning and assurance processes.
  • Line management responsibility for one staff member in support of Education Branch finance and the Army Language and Culture capability, and provide other staff support to Education Branch staff officers commensurate with the level of responsibility/grade of this role.

The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits will be subject to a six-month probation period. Travel/interview expenses are not reimbursed. The Department is reviewing pay-related allowances which could impact current allowances.
