Job summary

Babcock is inviting applications for an Armourer at our Lulworth, Dorset site to maintain weapons and mechanical systems to the highest standard. This hands-on engineering role covers a wide range of equipment from small arms to armoured turret systems, contributing to operational readiness and safety.

You will work 37 hours per week, on-site in Lulworth, with a full-time permanent contract and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Hands-on engineering experience in a defence/engineering environment.
• Experience inspecting and servicing weapon equipment preferred.
• Full, valid UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

The role

As an Armourer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll play a critical role in supporting defence capability by ensuring weapons and mechanical systems are maintained to the highest standard. This is a hands‑on engineering role where your expertise directly contributes to operational readiness and safety. You’ll work on a variety of equipment, from small arms to armoured turret systems, developing your technical skills in a highly specialised environment while building a rewarding career in defence engineering.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

• Inspect, service and overhaul small arms and weapon systems to maintain operational performance
• Conduct examinations and quality checks in line with engineering standards and procedures
• Carry out repairs and fault diagnosis on armoured turret systems and mechanical equipment
• Manufacture and assemble components to support production and maintenance activities
• Support continuous improvement by following best practice and maintaining a safe working environment

This is a full-time role based onsite at Lulworth. You will be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday.

Essential experience of the Armourer:

• Ideally have exposure to completing weapon equipment courses or some hands‑on familiarity with military or defence‑related equipment (desirable)

Qualifications for the Armourer:

• Level 3 qualification in a manufacturing or Engineering discipline (or equivalent)
• A full, valid UK driving licence
