Job description

Hours: This is a c asual role with no fixed or guaranteed hours. Shifts will vary from week to week

Pay:£12.21 per hour

About Us:

Arlington Arts is a thriving and very busy arts and conference centre situated on the campus of Mary Hare School.

We exist both to help fund and support the various activities of Mary Hare, allowing the charity to continue its vital work with deaf children and young people, and also to provide a high quality cultural and community resource for the people of Newbury.

Our programme has a strong mix of professional artists, musicians, bands, comedians and theatre companies all year round, and also play host to a large number of local community groups, dance schools, meetings, lectures and training sessions for a very diverse range of clients across our various spaces. We are a valued part of the creative community within Newbury, and strive for a reputation of excellence, quality and customer service.

The role reports in the first instance to the Front of House Coordinator for scheduling purposes and thereafter to the Director of Arlington Arts

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To provide technical services and assistance with performances, exhibitions , hires and events to include;
  • lighting rigging, focusing, operation and basic design
  • working knowledge of live mixing and operating a digital sound desk
  • regular format and layout changes in the theatre
  • To work with incoming artists, performers, hirers, school staff and students to ensure that every user of the venue receives the best possible service for their event
  • To act as a 2nd Technician, assisting team members with the delivery of services.
  • To maintain best practice in Health & Safety across all events, and be responsible for the safety and security of all backstage areas

About You:

  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent
  • Experience working in a Theatre technical department
  • Good working knowledge of stage lighting, sound, AV and IT equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot, with a positive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and procedures within the context of a public building
  • Experience with ETC consoles, Allen & Health mixing Consoles
  • Experience with both generic and intelligent lighting
  • Experience with reading tech riders and lighting plans
  • Willingness to work at height - will need to have an in date iPAF certification.
