Area Technician | 8667 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £31,537 to £33,699 per annum (Scale G) | Aylsham
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Highways team based at Aylsham. We are looking for an experienced, organised and self-motivated individual, knowledgeable in highway maintenance, construction or other engineering environments. This will be a predominantly office based role, however there will be times when you will be needed to help other team members out in the public highway.
The Highway Area teams are responsible for the client highway maintenance and street works functions for the County Council as Highway Authority. Working with in-house and partnership staff for delivery of works required, key services include highway inspection and scheme identification, Member and public interface, supervision of works (including utilities), traffic management inspection and monitoring of all works affecting the public highway, and winter and emergency planning.
In order to focus on local delivery, the county is divided into 4 areas each with a team based at an area office, headed by an Area Manager. The Area Technician forms part of the depot team, working directly with managers, staff, partners and road workers to ensure the effective delivery of services. It's a critical role, essential to enable the successful delivery of vital services. You will need to possess excellent communication skills in order to deliver high quality customer service. You will be involved in a wide range of highway maintenance and network management matters including the Broadland Northway and the increasing level of new development supervision, with time also split between the area sector teams.
Experience of working in a highway maintenance and/or construction environment is preferred, however full training and support will be given. You will also need experience of dealing directly with members of the public and evidencing excellent communication and customer care skills. You will need to be highly organised with a methodical approach to solving problems and issues. You will need to be self motivated and be able to demonstrate you have the ability to prioritise workloads effectively. There will also need to be an understanding and knowledge of Health and Safety.
This role will also involve the collation of work from other team members and creating documents to be sent on heir behalf, liaising with contractors and managing multiple spreadsheets covering different work streams.
Duties can also involve the delivery of the service in emergency situations, such as flooding or winter conditions, which may require work outside normal working hours. You will be required to travel in order to deal with customer service requests and therefore you will need to be able to travel to places not accessible on public transport routes.
