Job summary

Network Rail is seeking an Area Support Analyst to join the Control & Process Framework team in Manchester. Hybrid working requires 60% on-site presence, with a focus on strengthening the control framework across shared services, especially AP/AR.

The role demands accuracy, proactive collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure. You will lead reporting using Power BI, support risk management, and work with stakeholders at senior levels to implement improvements.

Qualifications

  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and process thinking.

  • Experience in a Shared Services environment.
  • Familiarity with COSO guidance and internal controls is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support Golden Threads with emphasis on AP and AR to drive adherence to the control framework.
  • Partner with internal teams to enhance processes and controls.
  • Support financial process reviews to identify control improvements.
  • Own and implement validation and testing schedules for SOPs and controls.
  • Mitigate risks and develop corrective action plans with shared services.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation across the framework.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and HMRC/tax regulations.
  • Document processes and keep procedures up to date.

Location: Manchester Square One, Travis Street

Working pattern: Hybrid working: this role permits hybrid working, employees are expected to work from Manchester Square One for minimum of 60% of their weekly hours, typically minimum 3 days for full-time roles.

Role responsibilities:

Within the Control & Process Framework team, we support shared services to maintain a robust control framework, risk management, and governance processes, and improve processes and controls whilst managing our risk profile.
We're looking for a self-starter with a proactive attitude and the confidence to operate independently to join our Control & Process Framework team at Network Rail in a fast‑paced environment where accuracy and attention to detail are essential. The role involves managing multiple tasks simultaneously, putting the customer at the heart of what we do. The position demands a strong ability to be collaborative, juggle responsibilities and deliver consistently under pressure.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support our Golden Threads across shared services with emphasis on AP and AR teams to drive and support adherence to our control framework
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure sound decisions and long‑term enhancements to processes and controls.
  • Support financial process reviews across the business to identify and implement control improvement
  • Own and implement validation & testing schedules for standard operating procedures and controls
  • Mitigate all known risks, where new issues are identified work in conjunction with shared service colleagues to understand root cause and develop plans to mitigate.
  • Support continuous improvement across the control framework, driving efficiency through automation, digital tools, and process optimisation.
  • Working collaboratively with shared services teams to ensure compliance to policy and regulations including GDPR and HMRC / tax regulations and helping to share knowledge and understanding
  • Building knowledge and understanding within the teams of the processes undertaken and supporting the shared services teams to ensure each process is documented then kept updated in line with current practice
  • Deliver accurate, timely reporting using Power BI and other tools to provide insightful analysis to support strategy and planning within shared services
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders including shared services teams, internal audit and National Audit Office.
Your experience and skills

What are we looking for?

  • We're looking for someone who's inquisitive with strong analytical skills and attention to detail who can demonstrate a genuine interest in how processes and controls work and finding smarter ways to do them
  • Experience of managing improvement projects
  • Proven influencing, networking and stakeholder management skills at senior management level.
  • Experience working at a similar level within a Shared Services environment

What could set you apart when applying?

  • Knowledge of universal COSO guidelines to evaluate internal controls, risk management and fraud
  • ORACLE eBusiness Suite experience
  • Studying for AAT/ACCA qualifications
