Job description

We are seeking an Area Services Manager to join Thames Water on a permanent, full-time basis.

As part of the Wastewater team, this role involves leading a small team providing specialist technical support to Performance Managers across an area, with a focus on maintenance to ensure compliance, statutory inspections, and service levels are met now and in the future.

You will be part of a broader group of Area Services Managers driving strategic maintenance change.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Focus on maintenance strategies to enhance asset efficiency, reduce failure rates, and improve site resilience.
  2. Implement a consistent approach to asset operation and maintenance to ensure cost-effective, robust, and safe 24/7 operations.
  3. Provide technical input to site improvement projects for effective and efficient solutions.
  4. Identify, mitigate, resolve, and escalate risks across the site and team, acting as a point of escalation when necessary.
  5. Lead, manage, and develop staff to meet objectives, demonstrating strong leadership aligned with Thames Water Values.
  6. Promote health, safety, and wellbeing within the team, ensuring compliance with safety policies and statutory inspection programmes.
  7. Manage the team’s budget and financial activities, driving efficiencies to meet operational budgets for AMP OPEX and CAPEX.
  8. Deliver exceptional service to internal and external customers through proactive engagement.
Candidate Requirements
  1. Strong background in industrial mechanical/electrical maintenance.
  2. BTEC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical.
  3. Leadership and team development skills.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Organisational and risk management abilities.
  6. Proficiency in IT, including Excel and SAP data interrogation.
  7. Knowledge of health and safety requirements, with NEBOSH or equivalent qualification.
  8. Financial management skills and commercial awareness.
  9. Stakeholder engagement and customer focus.
  10. UK Driver’s License.
  11. Willingness to undertake relevant process and leadership training (e.g., APD & COTC qualifications).
