Overview

Area Sales Manager – British Manufacturer / Global Company | Mechanical Engineering Components | World class training and professional development

Salary: £48,000 to £60,000 basic (experience dependent) with on target earnings of £70,000+ and benefits including home office, company car, pension, laptop, mobile phone, credit card and bonus. Location: Yorkshire, UK. Home-based role with regional travel. Mercury Hampton is working exclusively with this client.

Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the UK Sales Manager and take responsibility for business activities throughout the Yorkshire region.
  • Account management and new client acquisition, with an emphasis on 70% strategic key account management of existing clients and 30% new business activity.
  • Sell to a diverse client base across industrial, process and manufacturing environments; provide technical solutions requiring a mechanical engineering aptitude.
  • Operate as a home-based role requiring regular customer visits within the sales region; one day from home office and four days with customers.
  • Report all sales and quotation activity monthly; receive support from internal sales engineers for technical backup and closing support.
  • Maintain strong account management and business development skills with a mechanical engineering mindset.
Candidate / Qualifications
  • External sales experience in an associated sector (e.g., mechanical seals, rotating equipment, pumps, valves).
  • Mechanical engineering background; strong grasp of rotating equipment and ability to understand pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, seals, etc.
  • Strong strategic thinker with exceptional ability to develop relationships, manage key accounts and develop new business.
  • Eye for upselling/cross-selling opportunities; excellent communication skills to sell to a wide variety of levels.
  • Proven track record of business-to-business sales; dynamic, can-do attitude and enthusiasm for sales.
  • Engineering qualification advantageous but not essential; a mechanical engineering apprenticeship would be desirable.
  • Extensive product training will be provided.
