Area Sales Manager | British Manufacturer / Global Company | Mechanical Engineering Components

World class training and professional development. Home-based role with a Yorkshire UK focus; potential to live in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Hull, Sheffield, York, Doncaster, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, Huddersfield, Northallerton, Skipton, Pontefract, Barnsley, and surrounding areas.

Basic salary £48,000 to £60,000 (experience dependent) with on target earnings of £70,000+. Benefits include home office, company car, pension, laptop, mobile phone, credit card and bonus. Mercury Hampton is exclusive with this client.

A world leading manufacturer of rotating equipment and mechanical components for applications across multiple industrial sectors including chemical, oil & gas, food & Bev, pulp and paper, mining, process, defence, power, wastewater and pharmaceutical. The company operates globally with sites in over 100 countries and a multimillion turnover. They manufacture products, systems and solutions to enhance pump efficiency and reliability and reduce maintenance downtime and cost. Due to retirement, they are looking for a sales professional with a mechanical engineering background to manage this important region.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the UK Sales Manager, manage business activities throughout the Yorkshire region.
  • Account Management and new client acquisition with a split of approximately 70% strategic key account management and 30% new business activity.
  • Engage with a diverse client base across industrial, process and manufacturing environments. Perform technical solution selling requiring mechanical engineering aptitude.
  • Maintain strong mechanical engineering knowledge (apprenticeship and/or degree) and stay informed on rotating equipment, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, seals, etc.
  • Work as a home-based role requiring regular customer visits; one day from home office and four days with customers.
  • Report all sales and quotation activity monthly; collaborate with internal sales engineers for technical support.
  • Develop and manage relationships, identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities, and contribute to achieving sales targets (expected earnings £70,000+).
Candidate qualifications
  • External sales experience in mechanical seals, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, or related sectors.
  • Mechanical engineering background; strong grasp of rotating equipment preferred.
  • A strong industrial sales professional with a solid understanding of mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage various levels of stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in B2B sales and relationship management, with strategic thinking and business development skills.
  • Upselling/cross-selling mindset; dynamic, proactive, and customer-focused attitude.
  • Engineering qualification advantageous but not essential; a mechanical engineering apprenticeship is desirable.
  • Extensive product training provided.
