Overview

Area Sales Manager – British Manufacturer / Global Company. Mechanical Engineering components. World class training and professional development. UK Yorkshire region. Home-based with potential for living in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Hull, Sheffield, York, Doncaster, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, Huddersfield, Northallerton, Skipton, Pontefract, Barnsley, etc. Mercury Hampton is working exclusively with this client.

A world leading manufacturer of rotating equipment and mechanical components for applications throughout numerous industrial sectors including chemical, oil & gas, food and beverage, pulp and paper, mining, process, defence, power, wastewater and pharmaceutical. They manufacture products, systems and solutions that enhance pump efficiency and reliability and significantly reduce maintenance downtime and cost. Due to retirement this world class company is looking for a sales professional with a mechanical engineering background to manage this important region for them.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting directly to the UK Sales Manager, take responsibility for business activities throughout the Yorkshire region.
  • Manage the area with responsibility for account management and new client acquisition (approximately 70% strategic key account management of existing clients and 30% new business activity).
  • Engage with a diverse client base across various industrial, process and manufacturing environments; perform technical solution selling requiring a mechanical engineering aptitude.
  • Operate as a home-based role with regular customer visits; one day per week at the home office and four days focusing on developing and managing customers.
  • Report all sales and quotation activity monthly; collaborate with internal sales engineers for technical support to close sales and support customers.
Candidate
  • External sales experience from related sectors (e.g., mechanical seals, rotating equipment, pumps, valves).
  • Mechanical engineering background; strong grasp of rotating equipment and mechanical seals is highly beneficial.
  • Strong strategic thinker with exceptional ability to develop relationships, manage key accounts and grow new business.
  • Eye for upselling / cross-selling opportunities; excellent communication skills to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of B2B sales; dynamic “can do” attitude and enthusiasm for sales.
  • Engineering qualification advantageous but not essential; a mechanical engineering apprenticeship would also be desirable.
  • Extensive product training will be provided.
