Job Description

As an Area Manager (Nights), you will be responsible for managing the performance of a Business Unit within our Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC). Working as part of a tiered management team, you will create a safe and respectful environment, ensuring all workflows run smoothly to deliver maximum client and customer value. You will also be accountable for shaping and delivering an outstanding employee experience, including training, development, and ongoing coaching of Area Coordinators.

This is a night role with a 12-hour shift starting at 5:30 PM, following a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety: Maintain exceptional health and safety standards, promote a positive on-site safety culture, and ensure adherence to SSOWs/Risk Assessment materials.
  • People: Create and maintain an exceptional employee experience, foster a culture of respect, identity, loyalty, trust, and aspiration, and drive training and coaching for your team.
  • Customer and Cost: Utilise Operational Excellence resources to improve end-to-end performance, find practical solutions to complex problems, and ensure food safety mechanisms are adhered to.
  • Delivery: Manage, motivate, and support your team members in a time-sensitive operational environment, and be responsible for the delivery and reporting of specific area KPI metrics.

You will also be expected to:

  • Undertake tiered management/personal shopper tasks if needed.
  • Stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 30kg (periodically from shoulder height).
  • Wear protective equipment.
  • Train to use Mechanical Handling Equipment.
  • Work in environments ranging from 30°C to -30°C.
  • Support other sites from time to time.
  • Work shifts, including weekends, in an operational 24/7 environment.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Previous management experience in a warehouse or logistics environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of best practice Health & Safety.
  • Strong verbal & written communication and numeracy skills.
  • Passion for dealing with people and focus on employee satisfaction.
  • Strong performance management knowledge and practical experience of conducting disciplinary & grievance investigations.
  • Working knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems & core operating reporting tools.
  • Experience with performance metrics.
  • High levels of PC/Microsoft package literacy.

Preferred (in addition to minimum):

  • Food Safety compliance knowledge.
  • Experience of working in a 24/7 productivity-conscious operation.
  • Mechanical Handling Equipment - Current qualifications / previous experience.
  • Previous experience in a continuous improvement environment & demonstrable problem-solving skills.
  • IOSH accreditation.
