Overview

Wayman Architects is a small but ambitious practice that has experienced significant growth since 2021. Based in a rural Northamptonshire setting, we are proud of our strong reputation for delivering projects collaboratively, working closely with clients, contractors, consultants, and statutory bodies to achieve thoughtful, practical, and high-quality outcomes.

Our portfolio is diverse: from high-end residential extensions and new-build homes to educational, commercial, retail fit-outs, warehouses, and industrial facilities. This variety ensures that no two days are the same.

We are now seeking a passionate and motivated Architectural Technologist / Technician (5–10 years’ experience) to support our continued growth. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of projects across all RIBA stages, develop strong client relationships, and contribute to the mentoring of junior colleagues in a supportive, design-led environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver projects through all RIBA stages, from concept to completion
• Interpret client requirements and integrate them into design proposals
• Undertake site visits to assess conditions and ensure design feasibility
• Produce high-quality, detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documents
• Prepare planning packs for submission, ensuring compliance with planning policy
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, standards, and industry best practice
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines efficiently
• Liaise confidently with clients, consultants, contractors, and statutory bodies
• Provide support and guidance to junior team members

Qualifications & Experience

• Accredited qualification in Architectural Technology
• CIAT chartered or working towards chartership
• 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience within a UK practice (minimum 3 years essential)
• Strong portfolio demonstrating technical and creative ability
• Full UK driving licence

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (SketchUp desirable; Revit an advantage)
• Confident use of MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and similar tools
• Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, construction technology, and detailing
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, taking initiative and problem-solving proactively
