Where Potential Meets Purpose: Spees Design Build

We are currently seeking an Architectural Project Manager to join our growing A/E team in Kent, WA. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex, multi-disciplinary design efforts for federal clients—including the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense—on projects that directly improve the built environment for Veterans and public-sector communities. From initial site visits through the development of detailed construction documents, our Project Managers serve as trusted leaders across the entire project lifecycle.
Project Managers at Spees Design Build are trusted for their ability to balance big-picture strategy with hands-on technical execution. Whether guiding a team through early design development or resolving challenges during construction, you’ll play a critical role in shaping solutions that are compliant, constructible, and mission-aligned. Our firm’s commitment to integrity, technical excellence, and service means every project is an opportunity to make a lasting, measurable impact.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related design discipline. Candidates without a degree may qualify with an active RA, PE, or AIA membership and equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive A/E experience, preferably on complex or federal projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly to both clients and teams.
  • Proven analytical and critical-thinking abilities to support design development and problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of design and coordination tools.
  • Demonstrated strength in leading efforts for A/E design projects.
  • Hands-on experience preparing multi-disciplinary drawing sets and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of applicable codes, building standards, and effective space planning strategies
  • Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to contributing to a collaborative and inclusive studio culture.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through all phases of design, from planning to construction administration, for federal and state clients.
  • Serve as primary client contact; manage scope, schedule, budget, and project performance.
  • Oversee site visits, facility assessments, and existing condition surveys.
  • Run design coordination meetings, stakeholder sessions, and client presentations.
  • Review and approve drawings, specs, estimates, and bid packages for code and regulatory compliance (UFC, VA TIL, IBC, NFPA).
  • Coordinate with staff and consultants to develop cohesive, technically sound solutions.
  • Lead QA/QC reviews and enforce firm-wide quality standards.
  • Provide construction support services: submittal/RFI reviews, site visits, punch lists, and progress checks.
  • Mentor junior staff and promote adherence to design and documentation standards.
  • Manage consultant scopes and assist with contract and negotiations.
  • Contribute to firm initiatives and support special projects as needed.
