Job description

Nissen Richards Studio is looking for a talented architect, Part 2 architectural assistant or exhibition designer to join its multidisciplinary team in London.

Nissen Richards Studio is an award-winning design practice working across architecture, exhibitions, interpretation, graphic design, theatre, storytelling, film and animation.

Founded through a collaboration between architecture and theatre design, our work brings together spatial thinking, narrative and technical expertise to create thoughtful and engaging places and experiences.

Our projects range from museums, galleries and cultural institutions to residential architecture and public buildings, and are delivered both in the UK and internationally. We work collaboratively across disciplines, believing that the strongest ideas emerge through the exchange of different perspectives and approaches.

We are looking for a creative and technically accomplished architect, Part 2 architectural assistant or exhibition designer who combines strong design sensibility with excellent technical ability.

We are particularly interested in people who enjoy developing ideas, exploring materials and details and thinking creatively about how spaces are experienced.

You should be equally interested in the conceptual development of a project and the precision required to realise it. We value designers who understand how technical decisions contribute to the overall design, and who enjoy working across different scales, from spatial concepts to carefully considered construction details.

This role offers the opportunity to work across both our architectural and exhibition design projects.

We recognise that individuals may have greater experience in one discipline, but we are particularly interested in those who are curious about the relationship between architecture, exhibitions and storytelling, and who would enjoy contributing to a multidisciplinary studio.

What we’re looking for:
  • a qualified architect (Part 3), ideally with one to three years' post-qualification experience, or an exceptional Part 2 architectural assistant or exhibition designer with relevant experience
  • strong creative and conceptual design skills, alongside excellent technical ability
  • experience developing design ideas from initial concepts through to detailed design and construction
  • demonstrable experience of RIBA Stages 4-6, including tender and construction information, or equivalent experience in exhibition design
  • experience working on residential, cultural or exhibition projects, ideally including medium to large-scale residential developments
  • a sound understanding of UK Building Regulations and construction detailing
  • an interest in materials, making and the relationship between design and construction
  • proficiency in Vectorworks Architect (2D and 3D) is preferred
  • experience producing compelling presentation material and clear design documentation
  • familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams
  • confidence coordinating with consultants, contractors and wider project teams
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • an active interest in museums, exhibitions, architecture and cultural projects
  • a collaborative, positive approach and willingness to contribute creatively to studio life
What we offer:
  • a supportive, open and collaborative studio culture
  • the opportunity to work on a diverse range of architectural and exhibition projects in the UK and internationally
  • the opportunity to contribute creatively to projects from concept through to completion
  • early responsibility and genuine opportunities for professional development
  • a multidisciplinary team where architecture, exhibitions, interpretation, graphics and storytelling are developed together
  • flexible working around our Core Hours policy
  • 20 days' annual leave, plus three days over Christmas, one day for your birthday and bank holidays, increasing with length of service

If you are excited by the opportunity to combine creative thinking with technical expertise, and would like to contribute to projects that explore the relationship between people, places, objects and stories, we would love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunities employer. All candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. No agencies, please.
