GRØ Careers is partnering with a major international architecture practice to recruit a senior architect to lead UK Education/DfE projects from London. The role combines senior ownership with hands-on Revit work, and a flexible, two-days-per-week studio presence in Central London, offering strong autonomy within an established team.
You will manage client relationships, coordinate with consultants and contractors, and oversee design-team activities through technical and delivery stages.
London | £60,000-£66,000 | Hybrid - 2 days in the studio
There comes a point in an Architect's career where you're no longer looking for somebody to teach you how to run an Education project.
You're the person other people rely on to run it.
The client knows you.
The contractor calls you.
You can lead the consultant team, navigate the difficult conversations and keep a project moving without needing a Director sitting alongside you.
If you've reached that point, particularly within DfE Education, we have an opportunity worth knowing about.
We know exactly why this hire is being made.
GRØ Careers is working closely with a major international architecture practice to make an important senior appointment into its London Education team.
We've already successfully recruited into this team and continue to work closely with the people leading it.
The requirement has now become very clear.
They aren't simply looking for another Architect.
They need somebody experienced enough to take established Education projects from senior members of the practice and genuinely own them from London.
Someone who can become the day-to-day architectural lead.
Someone a Director can hand a live project to and trust to run it.
The work is already there.
There is an established pipeline of UK Education work, including significant DfE programmes and live school projects.
This isn't recruitment in anticipation of projects that might arrive.
Senior members of the practice are currently carrying southern Education workload that they want this appointment to progressively take ownership of.
You will work directly with clients, consultants and contractors, lead project and design-team meetings, coordinate multidisciplinary information and remain involved through technical and delivery stages.
And you will remain hands-on in Revit.
Senior responsibility. Without five days in the studio.
One of the more unusual things about this opportunity is the combination.
Our client wants somebody genuinely senior and autonomous… but that doesn't translate into an expectation that you need to be sitting in a London studio five days a week.
The working pattern is approximately two days per week in the London studio, with flexibility around the remainder.
So you're not trading responsibility for flexibility.
You can continue owning projects, maintaining client visibility and progressing your career while having considerably more control over where you work.
Award-winning team. International support network.
You will have the visibility and autonomy that comes from working within an established London Education team, backed by the infrastructure of a major international, multidisciplinary practice.
The business operates collaboratively across its UK offices, bringing together Education specialists rather than expecting every studio to contain every answer.
That means real autonomy without being on your own.
You will be trusted to lead, but there is considerable Education, technical and multidisciplinary expertise around you when you need it.
Who are we actually looking for?...
This search is deliberately quite specific.
You will need genuine UK DfE experience.
Not simply Education experience.
Not solely universities or independent schools.
We're looking for somebody who understands the realities of delivering DfE school projects and can demonstrate meaningful responsibility for running them.
You will also need to be a confident project-running Architect, comfortable leading clients, consultants and contractors.
You should have proven Revit capability and be comfortable getting hands-on when the project requires it, but this is not a production-heavy role… the emphasis is firmly on project ownership, coordination, decision-making and delivery.
Your current title could be Project Architect, Senior Architect, Senior Project Architect or Associate.
The title isn't as important as the level of responsibility you can handle.
The opportunity
If you're already the person trusted to run significant DfE projects but would value more flexibility, autonomy and visibility within an established London team, we would be interested in speaking with you.
GRØ Careers already knows the team, the senior people involved in the appointment and exactly why they're hiring.
That means we can give you considerably more context than you will get from a conventional job description before you decide whether it's worth exploring.
